2023 Project Brief:
Chinese Bottom Up is a documentary book project that explores the migration and economic development of Wenzhou’s private entrepreneurs.

《中国式自上而下》是一本探讨温州民营企业家迁移和经济发展的纪实性书籍设计项目。


Main Concept:
The core concept centers on how the rise of Wenzhou’s private economy mirrors the broader bottom-up development of China’s private sector since the country’s reform and opening-up. This economic success has been largely driven by the high mobility of its people.

Focusing on Wenzhou immigrants in Beijing’s Zhejiang Village—a community shaped by the city's unique political and economic status—this project highlights a group that is both distinctive and emblematic of its time.

Through thoughtful book design, this project seeks to document the historical trajectory of Wenzhou immigrants in Beijing and translate their journey into a compelling visual narrative.

温州民营经济的发展得益于其强大的人口流动性，同时反映了改革开放以来中国民营经济自下而上的发展。本项目主要围绕北京浙江村的温州移民。由于北京在中国的特殊地位，他们更具有时代特征和代表性。该项目旨在通过精心的书籍设计，记录温州移民在北京的历史轨迹，并将他们的旅程转化为引人入胜的视觉叙事。

The central graphic is a topographic map of Beijing’s Zhejiang Village, whose expansion symbolizes the continuous growth of the private economy.  

中心图形是北京浙江村的地形图，地形图的扩大也意味着其民营经济的不断发展。

The packaging design utilizes the gravure printing technique to highlight the depth of history and how the story of Wenzhou immigrants has been buried beneath its layers over time.

包装设计采用凹印技术，强调历史的厚重感以及温州移民的故事如何随着时间的流逝而被层层掩埋。
